Stonehaven   v   Dundee

Stonehaven 4-3 Dundee

We journeyed through the torrential rain to meet Keith’s Stonehaven side for the return leg of our pre/end/close season friendly on Wednesday evening. The first encounter in Dundee had ended in a tie, so with no away goals counting, all was set for a decisive showdown.

Ed continued his imperious form on board one against Keith, and debutant Andy made an impressive start to claim the honours on bottom board. Sadly, our middle order displayed roughly the same resistance as an England Test X1. A little harsh perhaps. Jim was up against a strong rising star, I was a comfortable pawn up before blundering a piece, and Henri was still very rusty with very little play in recent years. Gordon and Joshua held on bravely, with Josh fighting well in a materially unbalanced ending, but ultimately we went down.

Certainly no shame, as the Northern lads boasted some shining Stars in their line up. It’s very unfortunate that they no longer have a competitive league to play in, and any TAFCA application is on hold. The plus point is that we have Keith in our ranks again for next season. Swings and roundabouts.

Well played Stonehaven!
