We travelled to Perth’s new premises with a tough task to hold onto our trophy. Up against a good side, and a sizeable time deficit. We had 20 minutes v our opponents 40 minutes on all boards, except Board 1 where Ed had a luxurious 21 minutes v 39.

As in all our games it seems, we draw the first round and leave ourselves needing to win the second, or lose on board count.

But this was a bridge too far. Naturally, the whole point of the time handicap is to even up the chances, and credit to Perth for taking full advantage. We have cause to be disappointed, myself particularly, but that’s what the competition is all about. Congrats to our hosts and good luck in the final.
